Girl Board Member Application
As the nationally recognized leadership development organization for girls, Girl Scouts values youth participation and youth voices at its highest levels. We therefore invite youth Girl Scouts to apply for a one-year, non-voting position on the GSOSW board of directors beginning on November 17, 2026 to gain exposure to organizational governance and to provide a youth Girl Scout perspective as appropriate during board deliberations.
The Girl Board Member will attend five bi-monthly board meetings in person if possible, or virtually, including the GSOSW Annual Meeting in April. They will receive board materials and may attend board committee meetings, as appropriate, as a representative of youth members observing and providing input. They are responsible for their own transportation. The Girl Board Member will have a board mentor to introduce them to other members, explain proceedings, answer questions, and ensure their opportunity for input. Their first responsibilities will be to undergo virtual interviews October 14-October 30, 2026, followed by a Girl Board Member Onboarding Meeting on November 2, 2026.

Requirements
- The Girl Board Member will have been a Girl Scout member for a minimum of two years and will maintain their Girl Scout membership throughout the duration of her term.
- The Girl Board Member will be at least 14 years of age by the Annual Meeting at which she is elected to the board and must remain a youth member through the end of their term (18 years of age or less, not yet graduated from high school).
- The Girl Board Member pledges to represent the highest standards of Girl Scouts during their tenure on the board, and to abide by the confidentiality and ethical standards applicable to all board members.

At each board meeting, the girl board members are responsible for leading a "Mission Moment" for 3-5 minutes. A mission moment is an opportunity to leverage your knowledge and experience in Girl Scouts or to interview others to share their stories so board members can learn more about council offerings or issues girls care about. In the past, topics have included an overview of cookie or fall sale programs, troop travel experiences, Summer Camp, new mental health and wellness curriculum, and highest awards.
